Rumbles: Midtown Billiards is Back, The Main Cheese Closes Again, Arkansas Summer Beers Coming Out

News
Nine months after a fire left it in ruins, Midtown Billiards is back. The highly popular South Main dive bar has set its grand opening party for Friday, June 30. This will be a ticketed event, with a happy hour party from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m., and the main event from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. Entrance to the happy hour event is $20, while the big party tickets cost $25. Each ticket covers membership and a commemorative Sharpie pen to put to use getting Midtown back to its former glory. This is all still contingent on final construction projects finishing on time and getting all permits signed off. We will have a full preview of the restored space coming next week, so keep checking back here.
Speaking of rebuilding, Three Sams BBQ Joint has posted that only finishing touches on the kitchen remain until it can announce a grand reopening date. Three Sams burned in a fire more than a year ago and has been selling food out of a concession trailer while waiting for construction to finish. You can still visit them Wednesday through Friday for lunch.
After going through its fourth ownership group in three years, The Main Cheese is once again closed. Owner Ryan Merritt-McGehee cited low sales as the reason for shutting down the restaurant. Merritt-McGehee is continuing his work at The Clean Eatery, where he prepares healthy meals for home delivery via a subscription service. He is also running a new food truck at special events around town. No word yet on whether The Main Cheese will have a buyer for the space.
Summer is here, and along with the hot weather comes the release of beers perfectly made for sipping poolside or on the lake. Lost Forty still has six-packs of its Blackberry American Wheat floating around town, and has just canned its popular Logger Rita for the summer. Flyway, of course, recently released its Bluewing Berry Wheat in cans. Diamond Bear has its Summer Blonde and Strawberry Blonde canned up and available at the taproom and around town. Rebel Kettle’s excellent Summer Jam sour is finishing up and should be ready near the end of June. And if you’re looking to fill up a growler of something refreshing, make sure to get to The Water Buffalo, which has beers from all over Arkansas, including beers from the hard-to-find Prestonrose and Leap of Faith. Whatever brew you choose, make sure to support Arkansas breweries with your summer activities.
